Selected from Eastern Oklahoma County are Midwest City’s Kaylon Williams, Del City’s Rukiya Turner and Jakeyma Williams, Harrah’s Chelsea Robinson and Star Spencer’s Sharane Campbell.
Nominees were submitted by members of the McDonald’s All American Selection Committee, as well as state representatives, who closely follow prep basketball in each player’s respective area.
“Oklahoma has consistently had a large number of nominees and this year is no exception,” Kevin Brennan, local owner and operator, said. “Our young athletes contribute to their schools, their community and to the game they love. Our state is well-represented by these talented, hardworking players.”
Oklahoma City area nominees were honored at a breakfast on March 4 at the McDonald’s in Bricktown.
Since 1978, more than 1,000 male and female athletes have competed in the McDonald’s All American Games, forming an elite list of players in basketball history. Past winners include: Alonzo Mourning, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Candace Parker, Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose.
The 10th annual girls game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. March 30 at the United Center in Chicago, and will broadcast live on ESPNU. The 34th annual boys game tips off at 9 p.m., and will air live on ESPN.
Proceeds from ticket sales of both games will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicago and Northwest Indiana. To date, millions of dollars have been donated to RMHC chapters from proceeds generated at the McDonald’s All American Games.
