Longtime MWC fire department spokesman Jerry Lojka retires

Lojka spent 29 years at the Midwest City Fire Department and served in several roles, including firefighter, inspector, investigator, public education officer, public information officer and fire marshal.

His favorite job was that of department spokesman as he answered questions from the press, and conveyed important fire prevention tips to the public.

Mid-Del school officials urge parents to participate in survey

Districts can receive bonus points toward each school’s grade if parents fill out the survey. Schools must average a score of 4 or 5 on three different surveys that include parents, students and school faculty. To receive those scores, districts must have 10 percent participation of parents, 20 percent of students and 90 percent of its faculty. Read more

Bridesmaid’s heart study leads to honors award

The college recognized honors student Bailee Russell as the Outstanding Honors Graduate for the work on diagnosing “Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease,” or BAVD. Russell undertook a science project for a life science class at Rose State in which she measured electrocardiogram readings and discovered the signs of the disease in her friend. Read more
