Libraries announce upcoming activities

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, the Choctaw Library, 2525 Muzzy St., will host "Art for Kids" for ages 6 and up. The classes will teach charcoal and pencil drawing techniques. Bring a completed drawing to the first class along with pencils and paper. Call 390-8418 to register.

From 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, the library will host "Lapsit Story Time" for ages 6 months to 3 years old. The session will teach simple songs, rhymes and stories for parents and babies to enjoy together. Call 390-8418 or stop by the reference desk to sign up.

At 10:30 a.m., "Preschool Story Time" takes place for a half hour for 3-5 year-olds. The session features stories, songs and finger plays to help build early literacy skills. Please call 390-8418 or stop by the reference desk for more information. 

Emma "Jean" Stover's "The Sirloin Stockade Slaughter" begins at 6 p.m. for ages 18 and older. Stover is better known as "Dust Bowl Granny"; however, she will be highlighting her recently published work, "The Sirloin Stockade Slaughter." Oklahoma history and forensic science students will receive an attendance credit letter for participating. This event complements the OSBI and the History of Forensic Science Exhibit. Books may be purchased following event.

At the Del City Library, 4509 S.E. 15th, the Del City Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The club meets monthly to discuss a book chosen by its members. This month, the book is "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker.

The Midwest City Library, 8143 E. Reno, will host "Saturday Morning Movies" at 10 a.m. Saturday. The cartoons are all rated G or PG. The information desk has a list of the movies being shown.

From 1-5 p.m. the library, in partnership with the Midwest City Police Department, presents "Alive @ 25," a free program to help young adults and teens drive safely. To attend, register at the information desk or call 732-4828. 

On Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon, "Wii While You Wait" offers adults the opportunity to strengthen video gaming skills. From 10 a.m. to noon, the library presents "Tuesday Morning Movie Club" for all ages. All movies are rated G or PG. With limited space, the library suggests viewers show up early.

The "Knit Whit Program" also takes place from 10 a.m. to noon. The class teaches how to knit or crochet. Class is free, and all supplies are provided by the library. No registration is required.

That night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., the library offers "English as a Second Language" classes, co-sponsored by Oklahoma City Community College. No registration is required.

From 6:30 to 7 p.m. Pajama Story Night takes place for children of all ages. Kids may put on their pajamas and hear stories, songs, poems and rhymes and do the occasional craft. All children should be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. Call 732-4828 or visit the information desk to sign up. 

From 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, "Spanish with Se�orita Emmy" will teach Spanish. Every Wednesday participants will learn basic vocabulary and grammar. This class is free. To attend, please register at the information desk or call 732-4828.
