Shirley Cannon, an 80-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease, was located Nov. 11 in a rural portion of McIntosh County by an Oklahoma state wildlife ranger. The Midwest City police issued a Silver Alert warning for the woman Nov. 9.
"There is a strong likelihood because of where the car was, she could have gone for days without anyone finding her and at her age, probably would not have survived," Midwest City Chief of Police Brandon Clabes said.
Cannon was reportedly involved in a single-car accident and ran off the roadway.
The wildlife ranger noticed the vehicle and found Cannon upside down, still strapped in her seat belt. According to officials at the scene, she had been in the car at least eight hours. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Cannon was transported by ambulance to a Henryetta hospital from the accident scene.
