DA's office charges Del City driver for hitting two teens

By Kelley Chambers
Longtime Del City resident Josephine Brineno Hinojosa was charged with a felony Nov. 16 by the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office for leaving the scene of an accident on Oct. 30, where she allegedly hit two teenagers with her car and then drove away. She is further accused of falsely reporting a crime the next day when she told Del City Police officers her car had been vandalized.

In a sworn statement by Michael Gray, a DCPD officer, he stated on Oct. 30 Hinojosa was driving her 1999 Cadillac and for unknown reasons struck two juvenile females who were standing in the road on the east side of Vickie Drive at S.E. 25th Street. After hitting the two, Gray said Hinojosa left the scene and did not stop to render aid or call for medical assistance. The next day, Gray said Hinojosa called the DCPD to report damage to her vehicle by vandals. Gray said the damage was consistent with the impact from hitting the two females the prior evening.

The felony count, filed by Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater's office, charges Hinojosa with leaving the scene of an accident after hitting and injuring Alissa Jones and Christiana Ackerman.  The charge of falsely reporting a crime resulted from Hinojosa's report to DCPD officers that her car had been vandalized. Police officers that responded to the vandalism report stated they believed Hinojosa knew that the car had not been vandalized and that she intentionally gave officers a false account.
