The Midwest City wrestling team (4-5) demolished the Edmond Santa Fe Wolves in their dual last Thursday.

The Bombers took out the Wolves finishing with a score of 51-21. This was yet another district victory gained by a total of seven falls by MCHS as they get one win closer to both dual state and the state tournament.

Midwest City was off to a rough start with Larry Boatwright (160) dropping his match 8-6 against the Wolves’ Joe Speno.

Likewise, Anthony Sezer (170) and Xavier Tolton (182) both fell in the second period of their matches.

“We started off a little rough with our first three matches, but we finished out strong,” said Midwest City Head Coach Cory Wilson.

Then Patrick Clayson (195) pinned Ethan Whitely in just 1:31 turning the dual in favor of the Bombers.

The momentum swing continued when Ryan Tilbury (220) claimed a fall from Victor Mondragon after being taken down and then reversing him. Tilbury pinned Mondragon in 2:26.

Things got interesting on the mat during Korey Walker’s match.

The Bomber’s 285 pounder ended up getting a team point deducted due to his fierce attitude. However, Walker atoned for the penalty by pinning John Rentro in the beginning of the third period.

Marquez Edwards (126) also showed his fiery side for MWC when he dragged his opponent, Carson Spiegel, back onto the mat and beat him 5-0.

Evan Wilson (152) pinned Blake Merrifield in the third period after scoring 10 points over him in the first four minutes of the match. Meanwhile, Drew Wilson had the fall of the night, pinning Darrian Holten in merely 33 seconds into the first period.

Midwest City continued to roll.

Micah Smith (138) and Shamar Young both went the first two minutes without scoring until Smith pinned Young with three ticks left in the second period. Chance Wilmoth (145) ended up claiming a fall from Jonathon Barton after reversing him half way through the third period.

RJ Walker (132) and Taylor Holman (113) both earned seven points over their opponents. Slater 7 was unable to score on Walker, a success for the Midwest City Freshman. Holman, on the other hand, cut his match with Tyler Roberts; the final score being 7 to 6.

The Bomber’s conquered the mat once more. MCHS was victorious in earning 30 more team points than Edmond Santa Fe. You could ask anyone who attended that it was a shut out, but no one could describe the dual better than Coach Wilson.

“This is another district win for us so we’re very pleased with how the dual finished,” said Wilson. We did our research; we knew Edmond Santa Fe was going to be a challenging team so we made sure to go over their matches to help prepare our team.”

Wilson is also excited about finishing off the season.

“I’m very proud of how the entire team wrestled, and I am ready to compete at Dual State once again.” Wilson said.

Weather permitting Midwest City will travel Southmoore Thursday, Feb. 6 to take on 6A’s seventh ranked Southmoore Saber Cats.
