Social Media Woes
The internet is a wonderful place filled with whimsy and insanely funny pictures/videos of almost anything ever in the history of the world. Social media adds to the fun, allowing you to connect with friends, family and complete strangers (if that’s how you roll) without leaving the comfort of your bedroom.

A Review of the State Senate
The dust has settled at the Capitol and the Governor still has many more bills to consider. She essentially has two weeks (not including Sundays) to consider any bills that were sent to her during the last week of session.

Unconstitutional?: A reader response
In response to Mr. Herman G. Nelson’s letter to the editor published in the May 1, 2014 edition of your paper, I can’t help but think that he wrote his letter while looking off some type of Fox News talking-points checklist. Like almost everything propagated by the extreme right, history can easily disprove most of these claims.

Happy Mother's Day
One of the great things about owning a newspaper is having the opportunity to express oneself in a big way. You, the readers, have read my articles regarding Oklahoma weather and, more importantly, autism, and I thank you for it. Today,
I’m going to selfishly make use of this newspaper in that I would like to share something a little personal. Mother’s Day is this Sunday (don’t forget!), so I’m going to celebrate my mom.

Citizens' Academy Day 4

Last Thursday, the academy was briefed by a former long-term undercover narcotics officer. This man did drug raids, undercover buys, wore a wire in tense situations and was a key piece in hundreds of drug cases.

Fairness denied?
A few years ago there was a bill working its way through the state legislature, nicknamed Nick’s Law. This law would have mandated health insurance companies to provide coverage for children with autism spectrum disorders. The bill was meant to address a serious injustice in Oklahoma that allowed health insurance companies to deny coverage (which they did) to children with autism.

My child has autism. So now what?

Awareness is not always enough
April is Autism Awareness Month. As a father of two children on the autism spectrum, this month holds a special meaning to me and other “autism parents.”
As you can imagine we are very aware of autism and the challenges and gifts it brings into our lives. We get to see some of our children struggle to learn basic skills that often come as second nature to the child’s peers.

College preparations
After spring break, high school seniors are now in the last haul to graduation. While for some that may be exciting, it can be just as equally stressful and scary as college stares you in the face. There are resources available to students that can take the load off, and sound advice can go a long way.

Spring Break as an adult
I barely qualify as an adult. I’ve been a college graduate for less than a semester (I still quantify things by semester). I still survive on a diet of fast food and ramen. I still live about 50 percent of my life the exact same as I did my senior year.
