As temperatures dropped outside, the Carl Albert Lady Titans were just warming up inside the gym. The third ranked Lady Titans won with a cool 66-35 score against the El Reno Lady Indians on Dec. 20.
They beat the 13th ranked team with all-around effort on both ends of the floor. Jordan Gilbert led the Titan offense with 19 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
“Jordan is kind of a hidden gem cause she’s one of the best players in the state and a lot of people don’t even know who she is,” said Carl Albert coach Tim Price. “She can score from the perimeter, beat you off the dribble, shoot a true jump shot, post up, defend the post and defend the perimeter.”
Not far behind Gilbert in the points column, teammate Shamika Smith scored 17 points with 12 of those coming from behind the arc.
Gilbert, Smith, Charissa Price, Jazmine Anglin and Kaley Hallmark all hit at least one 3-pointer. The Lady Titans shot an efficient 43 percent from the field while holding El Reno to just 27 percent shooting.
The Lady Titans also out rebounded the Lady Indians 23-15.
“I thought we were incredible,” said Price, “We were really good defensively. We had a game plan and our kids followed it. We just got off to such a good start and established what the rest of the game was going to be like from the get go.”
Men rack up points
The boys played a much closer game with a final score of 67-60.
Although the second ranked Carl Albert boys’ team prefers to run their offense through Hayden Howell and the other post players, this game was decided from distance with hot 3-point shooting.
Anytime, the Titans needed momentum or just a few more points on the board, Wes Smith seemed to have the answer with a timely three ball. He made his first six 3-pointers of the night giving him 18 points for the game. Smith’s only two misses came in the fourth quarter. The team shot 54 percent as a whole from the field on the night.
The seventh ranked Indians weren’t too shabby themselves from behind the arc making 43 percent of their tries thanks in large part to Christian Wassana. He scored 21 points during the game, four of those being 3-pointers and snagged two crucial rebounds to keep his team close to the Titans.
The Titans didn’t just rely on Smith however. Cameron Warren and Hayden Howell both scored 17 points. Warren flashed some skills with a behind the back pass to Howell ending in two points for the Titans. Warren also brought down two rebounds and blocked two shots. Howell added two assists, eight rebounds and a block. Next the Titans head to Noble Jan. 14 to take on the Bears.
