The best of the best punched their tickets to the state track meet next weekend, in several regionals across the state. Each of our five teams sent at least one competitor each: together they sent 51 athletes. Each region automatically sends the top three finishers in each event, and the next four athletes in the state, in any region, also qualify.
Harrah headed to Claremore where Madison Collyer jumped a personal best 16’08’’ in Long Jump to claim the title of regional champion.
The Del City Lady Eagles headed to Deer Creek where Chancelei Jones became the regional champion in both the 200-meter dash with 25.18 seconds, and the 4X200 relay. Jones, Jasmine Mason, Beyel Tubbs and Jakira Wilson finished their relay in 1:45.15. Jones came up second in the 100-meter dash in 12.47 seconds. Also second was the 4X100 relay team. Mason, Wilson, Breail Goodlow, and, qualifying in her fourth event Jones, ran a 49.98. In the 400, Tubbs finished third with a time of 1:01.78.
Goodlow, in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, placed 4th and 6th respectively with times of 22.70 and 50.88. The Ladies 100 also placed Wilson from Del City as she finished fifth in 12.94 seconds.
The Del City boys’ team competed well. The 4X1 and 4X2 team consisting of Kobe Bryer, Davion Freeman, Kyle Walker and Josh Hunter, finished third and second respectively with times of 43.91 and 1:30.77. Hunter also qualified in the 100-meter run placing second with 11.13 seconds, and Freeman qualified fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.70 seconds. Devin McCrady ran a personal best time in the 400-meter run with 52.22 seconds to earn third place. The field events only qualified two Eagles. Laquan Johnson placed second in shot put with 45’02’’ and third in discus with 123’11’’. In high jump, Andrew Hill placed fifth to qualify with a jump of 5’10’’.
Choctaw also qualified several athletes.
Kurt Yandell became regional champion in both the 200-meter run and the 400-meter run. He ran 21.92 seconds in the 200 and 49.51 seconds in the 400. To earn herself third, Ana Llanusa leaped 5’2’’ in high jump. The 4X800 team also ran a personal best time of 10:53.21, placing third. The team consisted of Kaitlyn Goudy, Hadijah Sanders, Mackenzie Black, and Andie McGhee.
The Boys 4X800-meter relay team, which consisted of Trey Rhoades, Dejaun Deberry, Luke Molet and Joseph Brown placed fourth with a time of 8:46.00. The high jump event saw Kara Mickle place seventh with a 4’10’’ jump. Lastly for Choctaw, the discus team shined with two personal best throws from Ashley Reese and Bailey Powell who went 4-5 with 121’05’’, and 109’11’’ throws. Nick McGee also finished well with a throw of 139’06’’.
The ladies from Midwest City qualified Tashawnya Edwards, Asia Shinault, Kasey Webb, Jasauen Beard, Ashley Garfield, and Paige Houston. Edwards, Shinault, Webb, and Beard teamed up placing fourth in the 4X200-meter relay in 1:47.85. In the 300-meter hurdles, Edwards qualified, coming in second with a time of 45.02. Running a personal best, Beard placed second in the 200-meter run in 26.2 seconds. The shot put will have two Lady Bombers, as Paige Houston placed first with a personal best throw of 44’01’’ and Ashley Garfield placed fifth with 38’0’’.
Midwest City’s boys did well with their relay teams. The 4X100 team placed second with a personal best time of 42.36. The members are Brian Vinson, Caleb Corprew, Demeco Wright and Tre’ jon Sherrfield. Vinson and Wright also qualified in the 4X200 along with Julius Marshal and Jonathan Johnson. In the 100-meter dash Wright ran 11:05 to place second, and Corprew flew over the hurdles for 300 meters to take second with a time of 39.31.
The ladies of the Carl Albert high jump team stood out as they went 1-2-3 in regionals. champion Madison Hunter jumped 5’. Iynai Cureton and Camille Burge tied for second with 4’10’’ jumps. Burge became champion in the long jump clearing 16’7’’. The 4X2 also made state placing second with 1:47.15. The team consisted of Bria Leverette, Kia Leverette, Ashonte Winston and Shamika Smith. Smith also placed second and third in the 400 and 200-meter run with times of 1:01.25 and 26.52 respectively. Jaylyn Taylor also qualified in shot put with a 33’09’’ throw earning her fourth place.
The boys at Carl Albert excelled in their relays. The 4X1 relay consisted of Dillion Lohr, Tyler Ramsey, Paxton Smith and Trey Bruner. Together they placed third with a time of 44.64. Lohr, Smith, Bruner, and Phillip Lavoie placed second in the 4X200 in 1:30.98. Placing third in the 4X4 with a time of 3:38.61 was Lohr, Lavoie, Bruner, and Austin Davis. Lastly in the relays, Lavoie, Jaydon Robinson, Alex Barron, and Cameron Rowe placed first in the 4X800 with a time of 8:22.72.
Rowe ran his own 800-meter dash to place third with a time of 2:05.8. Bruner became regional champion in the 200 with a time of 22.8 seconds. Justin Humphrey placed fourth and fifth in the 300 and 110-meter hurdles with times of 41.65 and 17.08 respectively.
The throwing events qualified several Titans. Trent Ball placed third in shot put with a 51’2’’ throw and sixth in discus with a 137’7’’ throw. Chantz Woodberry placed third in discus with a 147’06’’ throw, and sixth in shot put with a 45’01’ throw. Finally, Kenric Watson placed fourth in shot put with a 46’03’’ throw.
