Rose State College will be hosting the 24th Annual Global Oklahoma festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 in the campus mall of the college.
This year’s featured country is Haiti.
Kicking off the event is the "Parade of Nations" at 9:45 a.m. led by the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., Charles B. Hall chapter, carrying the U.S., Haitian and Oklahoma flags. Following is the opening ceremonies conducted by school officials and special guests and a release of doves at 10:30 a.m.
With the commencement of Global Oklahoma, performances from cultures around the world will be showcased on four different stages. There is also a children’s tent and vendors serving exotic foods to visitors.
Dr. Tony Litherland, an Oklahoma Baptist University professor, will be building sandcastles with his family. The family is award-winning sandcastle builders and will be creating massive creations as well as giving lessons on creating sandcastles.
Returning from last year is the chalk artist Bobby Marsee. Last year, he created a colorful portrait of a Brazilian woman, and this year will be making a picture of Haitian children.
Oklahoma’s best performing artist/acoustic guitarist for three years running, Edgar Cruz, will be giving a concert at Global, alongside many other featured artists and local groups.
