Tanning Boutique Closes without warning

Tan & Tone America’s Closing Statement

It is with great sadness that after twenty-six years of serving Oklahoma City, that we must announce the closing of the metro Tan & Tone America locations. We had hoped that the revenues would begin to increase, however they have continued to decline. We have exhausted every possible financial resource to save the company, including the value of our personal life insurance and retirement funds, but we were still unable to establish the necessary capital for the company’s survival. This weekend we received financial advice from several sources and unfortunately we have been advised that the company is no longer viable.

Bowling alley closing after 5 decades

Bowling alley closing after 5 decades

Vicki Middleton

Sunny Lanes in Del City will close its doors this weekend, ending 52 years of strikes, turkeys and the occasional perfect game.

The AMF-owned bowling alley, located at 4330 SE 15th Street, has been a popular entertainment site for bowlers during the last five decades, but that will all come to an end on Sunday.

The closure of the 21,866 square-foot building built in 1960 is one of many bowling alleys that the company has recently closed across the nation. AMF, headquartered in Mechanicsville, Va., is the world’s largest bowling alley operator.

Jobs Report

A report on jobs training programs in Oklahoma criticized how money is spent and that individuals who receive training often do not enter related fields of employment.

The oversight report, released Wednesday by U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) is entitled, “What Works (and What Doesn’t): The Good, Bad and Ugly of Federal Job Training in Oklahoma.”

This report was the result of a year-long review of job training programs in Oklahoma that included 70 field interviews and meetings with officials.  The report follows last year’s groundbreaking study from the Government Accountability Office that found taxpayers are spending $18 billion on 47 duplicative job training across nine federal agencies.
