Councilmembers approved a request to clean house at the Choctaw Police Department during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday.
Police Chief Connie Clay’s requested to dispose 24 pages worth of items currently being stored at the police department. The chief went through all the proper channels to be able to do so, including obtaining an Oklahoma County district court order to authorize the disposal.
Items needing to be disposed, Clay said, ranged from evidence logged in police investigations including drugs, rape kits and guns, to items seized from suspects and vehicles during arrests.
Clay said when he first came on as chief of the department, he noticed a backlog of items that needed to be disposed. He said while numerous items have already been removed from storage, this round of disposal will help clear out even more.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, councilmembers approved a rezoning application submitted by Loyd and Brenda DeShazo. The couple sought the rezoning to be able to subdivide a one acre tract for a single family residence, according to their application.
An invoice submitted by Choctaw Town Square also was approved by the council. The original amount of the invoice was for $639,161.86 but councilmembers amended the amount by $10,000. Bernie Nauheimer, who handles the city’s finances as city treasurer, said the council did so because the city cannot reimburse legal fees incurred by developer, Choctaw Town Square, LLC.
