- From Staff Reports
EastWord News has taken its coverage of sporting events to a whole new level.
On Tuesday, Derek Lewis, EastWord sports reporter, and Ronny Stevens, EastWord correspondent and Carl Albert High School student, live streamed the Carl Albert High School basketball game at Lawton MacArthur.
The game begins an exciting new development for EastWord sports.
“I’m beyond ecstatic that our staff, including newsroom assistant Bailey Powell, were able to pull off our first live streaming event,” said EastWord Editor Vicki Middleton. “This is just the first page in a new chapter for the newspaper.”
A high school student herself at Choctaw, Powell said she wanted to give loyal EastWord readers and fans a venue to watch their local teams play without leaving home.
It also helps that Powell has a passion for sports.
“We have a few technical and equipment issues to work through, but Tuesday’s broadcast went better than I could ever have imagined,” Powell said. “I’m a senior this year at CHS and I hope that after I graduate and head off to college next fall, other local students with my same passion will step up and help EastWord with live streaming games.”
Anyone wanting to watch games can visit www.eastwordnews.com and click on the “Attention Sports Fans” ad on the right side of the homepage. After that, viewers can simply select the event they want to watch. Make sure the sound is turned up on the computer or smart phone.
Lewis and Stevens will provide play-by-play of all live streaming events. They will eventually expand to player and coach interviews.
“We have lots planned for this new coverage and hope the community really gets behind the newspaper and our local athletes,” Middleton said.
The next sporting event is the Christian Heritage Academy vs. Lincoln Christian basketball game on Friday, Dec. 13.
Stay tuned for more games to be added to the live stream schedule.
