Last Thursday, Dec. 12, Carl Albert hit the mat at Shawnee High School. The Titans lost 55-7 in the end, leaving them plenty of room to grow before their next match.
The duel kicked off with Logan Shelton (106 pounds) against Camacho Hernandez. Shelton dominated his opponent with three takedowns, an escape and a near fall. Carl Albert went ahead in the match 4-0 going into the second duel.
The Titans then started to fall behind. After losing at 113,120,126, 132, 138, and 145, Carl Albert stood 4-25.
R.T. Sherman (152) beat Shawnee’s Colloy Daniel 9-4. Daniel scored off a reversal and a takedown, but he ran out of steam after the first period.
Sherman kept going and won with two escapes, two takedowns, and a three-point near fall.
This was the last win for the Carl Albert squad as Shawnee continued to dominate winning in the 182, 195, 220, and 285 classes.
Head Coach Curt Hodges kept a positive attitude after the duel.
“Well, we have some things to work on, but overall pretty good effort,” Hodges said. “We’re definitely going to build off it.”
Coach Hodges will look to improve on his kids fundamental positions and discipline as they get back to practice.
