The regular season is over, and the Carl Albert Titans upped their record to 8-2 going into the playoffs after a dominating 44-7 win over the El Reno Indians.
Just like many of Carl Albert’s recent games, this game was over from the very beginning.
Senior running back Chantz Woodberry rumbled 49 yards for a touchdown on the third play of the game and the rest was history.
Woodberry finished with 98 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns. He would have had over 100 yards and three touchdowns on the night, but his 25-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was called back because of a penalty.
The Titans dominated in every aspect of the game. The only thing El Reno did all night was hold standout senior quarterback Stevie Thompson to 6-15 passing, and even then, he still had 145 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Thompson also carried the ball six times for 86 yards and two touchdowns, giving him a total of 231 yards and four touchdowns.
The Indians did manage to get on the scoreboard with a 56-yard run halfway through the fourth quarter, but that was in garbage time when Carl Albert already pulled its starters.
Now it’s time for the playoffs, and the Titans always save their best football for the postseason. A perfect example of that is what Carl Albert did last season. After starting 1-5 and ending 5-5 in the regular season, the Titans went through four top six teams in the playoffs, including number three in the semis and number one in the championship.
“Now’s the time that we gotta get really close, we gotta love each other, and work together as a football team,” Head Coach Gary Rose said to his team after the game. “If you do that, then you’re good enough to go get this done. One week at a time.”
Carl Albert will take on the Del City Eagles in the first round at home on November 15. The Titans ended the Eagles’ dream season in the first round last year, 28-21.
