There was not much to Carl Albert's district game with Western Heights. The Titans took care of business against the winless Jets, continuing their march towards the playoffs that are right around the corner.
"We played hard and we did a lot of things well," Head Coach Gary Rose said after the game. "Now we need to get ready to go on a run."
Carl Albert jumped on Western Heights early, scoring two quick touchdowns on Steven Thompson passes to Trent Ball, 15 yards, and Dillon Lohr, 56 yards, and it looked like things were going to get ugly in a hurry for the Jets.
However, they had some fight in them.
Western Heights started with the ball at its own 15-yard line, but they put together a long, methodical drive, and capped it off with a 2-yard touchdown run to cut the score to 14-6 and that's where it would stand at the end of the first quarter.
That would be closest they would get.
The Titans outscored the Jets 28-0 in the second quarter, highlighted by a 42-yard punt return by Lohr, ending any hopes of a monumental upset for Western Heights.
Once the second half started, Carl Albert started right where they left off.
Ball, who has received interest from Illinois, Colorado and Kansas State, caught his second touchdown pass of the night from Thompson, this time from 37 yards out.
The grab doubled Ball's touchdown total for the season. He had three catches for 81 yards to go along with the pair of touchdowns. He had 10 catches on the season coming into the game.
"I got my chance to catch it in the game and I did," Ball said of the rare opportunity to catch passes in a game. "I was hoping I could show the coaches I could catch the ball so they would throw it to me more when the time comes for the big games."
On the next drive, Thompson capped off his night with a 27-yard pass to junior tight end Corey Zangari for a touchdown that gave Carl Albert a 57-14 lead late in the third quarter.
Thompson finished with 248 total yards (248 passing, 6 rushing) and 5 touchdowns, four of those through the air.
When all was said and done, the Titans reigned victorious with a dominating 64-21 win, but Ball says there is still plenty to work on before the playoffs.
"We're still not fully ready, but we are working hard at practice," Ball said. "We're working on getting our assignments better and we're working on our defense some more, trying to get them to the right spots."
Carl Albert (7-2) plays its last regular season game on November 8 against the El Reno Indians (4-5).
El Reno enters the contest having defeated Guymon 47-6 in its last game.
