Mid-Del swimming focused on improvement this week as they participated in the Casady-McGuinness Invitational.
The swim team competed Saturday in the invite at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center in a meet that featured over 40 swim teams between the girls and boys.
Swimmers went up against talents from large schools, public and private, from Texas and even 6A schools from around the area to see how they would stack up against tougher competition.
The coaching staff focused their swimmers on winning individual heats. They also set out to improve mechanics in the water to prepare themselves for the upcoming conference meets and their last home meet of the year.
So, it wasn’t the usual success one would come to expect in the win column for the Mid-Del unit, but relative to the competition, the swimmers had a good showing.
Carl Albert led the way as usual for the team placing seventh in the combined team scorers. The Titan girls took seventh out of 23 teams while the boys placed sixth out of 21 teams.
Jaedon Roe and Alex Lawrence led the way for the boys. Roe finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle while his relay teammate Lawerence, took a third in the daunting 500-yard freestyle.
The highlight of the girls day came when they finished fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The season gets busier as it begins to wind down for the swimmers.
Midwest City and Del City have their conference meet Thursday, Jan. 23 at OCCC, while Carl Albert will have their conference meet on Monday, Jan. 27 at Harrah.
The swimmers also will participate in a home meet over the next week. Harrah and Mustang come to the Rose State Aquatic Center to take on the swim team Friday, Jan 24, starting at 5:30.
