Last week, the Bombers lost to the Westmoore Jaguars by one point after two forfeits and a match decided by penalties.
The duel did not kick off with a spectacular start until Midwest City’s Drew Wilson won by a point over Canon Randall. The point was awarded after Wilson escaped Randall’s grasp.
The next man to score for the Bombers was Marquez Edwards, who pinned Cody Cockrum at the 1:25 mark, and brought the team’s score up to 9-5 in favor of the Bombers.
At 138 pounds, Micah Smith beat opponent William Foster thanks to a 3-point near fall toward the end of the match.
The match had been sliding the Jaguars way, but Chance Wilmoth brought the Bombers back to within one with several near falls and reversal points.
Riding on the momentum of his teammate, Evan Wilson scored 6 team points when he pinned Caleb Browning in 1:16 of the first period.
The third pin of the night for the Bombers came 2:33 seconds into the match as Anthony Sezer took down Kieron Hardrick.
Unfortunately, the Jaguars gained enough momentum to pull ahead for good going into the last match 35-28.
Heavy weight Korey Walker did everything he could to get his team the win by pinning his opponent in just 1:14 into the final match. Unfortunately for the Bombers, it was just too little too late.
Coach Cory Wilson acknowledged that his team missed opportunities after the match. Still, the coach wasn’t down on his kids one bit.
“I thought we did pretty well,” said Wilson. “We had an opportunity to win the duel.”
Midwest City is back on the mat Thursday, Jan 16 against Moore at Moore High School.
