Bomber ladies outlast Westmoore
by Derek Lewis

The Lady Bombers came off of back to back losses at the Deepsnap Tournament of Champions in Fort Smith, Missouri looking to get back on track at home against the Westmoore Lady Jaguars last Tuesday. They did just that defeating the Jaguars 55-49.

The Lady Bombers seemed to be on a bit of a rollercoaster against Westmoore jumping out to big leads than seemingly handing them back. Midwest City led 17-10 after the first quarter, but let Westmoore sophomore guard Ashley Gomez get hot from 3-point land in the second quarter. Midwest City led 24-22 at halftime.

Lady Bombers guard Kara Partridge was a huge reason Midwest City had the lead at halftime with eight points in the first half. She finished her night with ten points on 3-3 shooting with four steals. Midwest City coach Art Bode was proud of Partridge’s intensity.

“Kara gave us a spark off the bench,” said Bode. “She made things happen defensively which led to opportunities on offense and that’s why she had success.”

Midwest City senior forward Jasauen Beard and sophomore forward Ireon Smith got going in the second half to push the lead back up to ten points by the end of the third quarter. Smith had ten of her 12 points in the second half. Gomez continued her hot shooting hitting four more triples in the second half.

Yet with 2:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, it was still Midwest City sporting the same ten point lead. Unfortunately, the Lady Bombers thrill ride had one more twist. The Lady Jaguars hit back to back 3-pointers to trim the lead down to six with just over a minute to go.

But, six points was as close as they got. The Lady Bombers were able to get close down the 3-point line late and finish off the Lady Jaguars 55-49.

Beard led the way finishing with 14 points, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
Gomez led all scorers with 21 points going 6-10 from the 3-point line.

Coach Bode was proud of his team for competing for all four quarters but cautions they are still a work in progress due to their inability to knock an opponent out when they get down. On this night, Midwest City knocked them out when it counted most.
