The Carl Albert Lady Titans competed in the Panther Classic Tournament over the weekend held at Harrah High School and finished in fifth place. The Lady Titans suffered a loss in the first game against Choctaw 53-43 to put them on the consolation side of the bracket.
However, they were able to rebound and beat their next two opponents to take home the Consolation Championship. They beat Ponca City 55-46 and Byng 42-25 to secure fifth place.
Carl Albert coach Tim Price said he was proud of the effort and thinks the tournament has been their best basketball to date especially Saturday against Byng.
“I told em. It’s going to come down to who wants to be here more,” said Price. “Saturday afternoon games can be tough especially if you aren’t playing for the championship.”
The girls answered Price’s call jumping out to 13-0 lead on Byng and never looking back.
Carl Albert guard Jordan Gilbert took home some hardware herself. She was named to the All-Tournament team for her work throughout the weekend, but the honor won’t stop her from improving within the team concept.
“After getting this, I know I need to step up as leader,” said Gilbert. The Lady Titans get back on the court against El Reno on Friday, Dec. 20.
