Last Wednesday, Nov. 13, four Mid-Del athletes signed letters of intent to Division 1 schools.
Jasauen Beard from Midwest City High School was the first to sign on the day committing to Oral Roberts University for women’s basketball. Beard, a four year letterman, led the Bombers in four different statistical categories last year including scoring. Beard said she was excited because this signing was long time in the making.
“They’ve been recruiting me since my freshman year, and they have big plans for me,” said Beard.
Joining in on those plans is Carl Albert High School’s Jordan Gilbert. Gilbert also signed with Oral Roberts and is excited to be a part of the mix.
“I think it’ll be fun. I love playing with her [Beard], “said Gilbert.
Two more Carl Albert athletes inked a commitment on the day. Baseball standouts Gavin LaValley and Cameron Warren both committed to the University of Oklahoma. LaValley started all four years for the Titans and expects to continue his play in the infield for the Sooners. Growing up an OU fan made the day even more special for LaValley.
“It’s a dream come true,” said LaValley. “Growing up a Sooner fan, I always wanted to go there and I finally get a chance so I’m really excited.”
His teammate, Warren, also thinks it’s a blessing to play for the school that he grew up loving. Warren lettered all four years at Carl Albert and expects to play one of the corner infield or outfield spots for the Sooners. Still, the most exciting part about it all for Warren is making the journey with his friend.
“Me and Gavin been friends all of our lives since five years old all the way through high school and I just can’t wait to play with him,” said Warren of the friendship between the two commits.
All four commits will have to hold off on the dream of playing college ball together. They still have one more season to go before they head off to college which will be a treat for Midwest City.
