11/12/2013 9:30:00 AM Midwest City Closes Regular Season with a Shutout
by Michael Newberg
The Midwest City Bombers (6-2) ended the regular season on the road as they took on the Moore Lions (1-8). The Bombers completely shut down Moore in frigid conditions 36-0.
It was a rough season for the Lions as they had only won a single game. Moore head coach Todd Watters had wanted more from his Lions to end the season, but failed to get as much as their offense could not get the ball moving the entire game against the Midwest City Bombers’ smothering defense.
Riding high from a three game winning streak, the Bombers came out with bad intentions. Midwest City head coach Darrell Hall has had his defense hitting on all cylinders all season. They have only given up 20 points two times all season.
The Lions could not throw or run the ball with any sort of success from their opening possession. They were outmatched and outclassed. It has been a decade since the Lions have beaten the Midwest City Bombers and nine years since their last winning season.
Allowing an average of just 12.6 points per game and 194.4 yards per game, Midwest City should be a serious threat to any team this postseason. They finished their season with a record of 7-2 (5-2 in conference) and ranked number seven in class 6A. The Bombers will now shift their focus to a deep playoff run.
Their first opponent this postseason will be Edmond Sante Fe. The Bombers beat the Wolves in the opening game of the season in a low scoring battle 3-0. This will be an extremely intriguing matchup between one of the best defenses in the Bombers and an explosive offense out of Edmond.
Midwest City will host the opening round game this week Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
