Midwest City polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. next Tuesday, Oct. 8 for individuals to consider five propositions proposed by the city.
One of those propositions is to grant the Midwest City Memorial Hospital Authority access to $50 million in funds to possibly negotiate or terminate the lease with Health Management Associates, LLC at Midwest Regional Medical Center.
The city decided to pursue the funds because of hospital staff and patient concerns about the quality of healthcare at the hospital.
Other propositions include giving monthly salary raises to city council members and the mayor, and also to make the city’s charter in compliance with state laws and the requirements of the Oklahoma County Election Board.
If passed, the raises will not go in effect until the current council members are either re-elected or a successor is elected. The proposed increases are $200 to $400 per month for the mayor, and $200 to $300 for council members.
The last time the city approved city council pay raises was in 1999.

I find it very bad timing for the mayor and council members to be asking for a raise of ANY kind. I understand they haven't had a raise since 1999. However, they do have an income at this time. Many others in Oklahoma do NOT have an income right now with the government shut down, business cutting hours because of not being able to afford Obama care, etc. SHAME ON YOU for even "thinking" you should get a raise right now. Your timing is in incredibly bad taste!
