The Del City Chamber of Commerce will host it’s Annual Awards Banquet and Hall of Fame Ceremony at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6 at the Del City Community Center, 4501 SE 15th Street, in Del City.

Donald Vick, professional engineer and land surveyor, will be inducted into the Chamber Hall of Fame.

Vick has been a resident of Del City since 1959 and has had a distinguished career as a professional civil engineer and land surveyor.

He and his wife Betty made Del City their home shortly after their marriage  in 1958. Vick pursued his career in land surveying and then later civil engineering.    Most notably, he has been with JGVE, Inc. since 1974 and served as its president for many years and is now chairman.

Vick has been a member of the Del City Chamber since the early 1970s and served on the Del City Planning Commission.

The Vick family has been members of Sunnylane United Methodist Church since the 1970s.  He also was a charter member of the Del City Rotary Club as well as past president and a past assistant district governor for District 5750, Rotary International.

JGVE has been the consulting city engineer in Del City since the early 1980s.

Vick has been the engineer on the William Haskell Keith Memorial Police Building, the Eagle Harbor Aquatic Park, the new public works and vehicle maintenance facility and the SE 15th Street resurfacing from Bryant Avenue to Sunnylane. He also did the widening project from Vickie Drive to Sooner Road.

Vick and JGVE designed the park trails in Ray Trent Park and the walking trails on SE 44th Street, as well.

Vick, his family and JGVE have donated their time for the design of many monuments and memorials for the City of Del City. These have included:  the May 3, 1999 Tornado Monument, the SE 15th Street and I-40 Welcome to Del City Signs, the civil engineering design for the War Memorial Sarcophagus, the Don Reynolds Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, the Walking Trails on Sooner Road between SE 29th and SE 44th Street, the AWACS Air Park honoring the 552d and TAFB, and the Marine’s Standing Guard at the War Memorial.

Additionally, the Vick Family and JGVE donated for the cost of one of the first AWACS planes in the AWACS Air Park on Sooner Road.

Professionally, Vick has been active in developing and furthering the practice of engineering and land surveying.  He has worked with the Oklahoma State Legislature to write and pass much of the legislation pertaining to the practice of engineering and land surveying. He has also been the past president and a member for nearly 40 years of the Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors and served a term as president.

He served as the chairman of American Consulting Engineers Council of Oklahoma and was president of ACEC Oklahoma in 2004-2005. He was appointed to the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and served on that State Board for 12 years with three terms as president.

Vick has always been proud to serve Del City and is always looking for ways to improve the quality of life in Del City.

Donald and Betty Vick have been married for 55 years and have a son D. Don and a daughter Charlotte.  They are also the proud grandparents of 5 year old Ellen Vick.

Kay Bibens, executive director of the Del City Chamber, indicates there are still seats available for the banquet and interested citizens can contact the Del City Chamber at (405) 677-1910 or by email at [email protected].
