A Del City man is seeking a reduced sentence in the Feb. 2013 killing of another metro man.
Christopher Cody King, 25, had pleaded guilty Aug. 8 to first-degree murder, arson and larceny in the death of Patrick Burton, 51, Norman. He confessed to the crime, claiming he was high on prescription pills, illegal drugs and alcohol when he shot and killed Burton.
During his trial, King tried to withdraw his plea after a judge sentenced him to life in prison Nov. 14. He is now appealing his conviction to the state Court of Criminal Appeals.
Burton’s body, shot and robbed, was discovered in a fire at his Norman home Feb. 13. Investigators said the last person Burton called was Mary Courtney York, also a Del City woman, who advertised herself as an escort. She was there when Burton was killed.
