Midwest City residents looking to get rid of tree limbs after the recent ice storm have two options: one that will cost them out right and one that is included with their monthly utility bill.
For $35 per half-hour, current utility customers may call (405) 739-1066 and schedule a curbside special pick-up.
City workers conduct pick-ups only on Wednesdays (except on holidays). Tree limbs and debris placed at the curb can be no bigger than 6 feet long and 8 inches in diameter, so no tree stumps.
The second option available is a more hands-on, do-it-yourself approach.
Residents can bring items to the city’s transfer station, 8730 SE 15th Street, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. any Saturday. Current residents are allowed four free visits per year to the station. They also can bring items an additional six times (for up to 10 total) but for a fee (see fee schedule list at right).
During all visits, residents are required to bring their water bill and a valid driver’s license or other form of ID with them, as it is unlawful for anyone other than residents to use the transfer station.
Other requirements residents need to note is the list of items not accepted, including: hazardous wastes, pesticides, herbicides, tires, appliances with compressors, batteries, paints, solvents, motor oil and any other items deemed detrimental by the utilities superintendent.
In addition, certain types of vehicles are not allowed at the transfer station, including: enclosed trucks, such as U-Haul or Ryder trucks, longer than 18 feet in length; and enclosed trucks less than 18 feet in length with any type of attached trailer.
Absolutely no commercial use is permitted at the transfer station and it is considered an offense for any person or entity who attempts to do so.
