One of Midwest City’s finest has been chosen as the new leader of the Midwest City Fire Department.
Jarett Metheny, who has been with the department since July 1995, was chosen Nov. 26 for the permanent position of fire chief. He had been the department’s interim fire chief since July 2013 and replaces retiring chief Randy Olsen.
Metheny has spent his entire career as a firefighter in MWC, and has served in multiple ranks throughout that time.
Before becoming the city’s 10th fire chief, Metheny was an assistant chief serving as a shift commander.
The chief has put in many hours to earn his college degree but he didn’t stop there. He also received his bachelor's degree in fire protection and safety engineering technology and a master's degree in fire and emergency management administration from Oklahoma State University.
He also is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy and is credentialed as a Chief Fire Officer by the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
Metheny also makes time to help others become firefighters. He currently is an adjunct faculty member with the fire and emergency management programs at Oklahoma State University-OKC.
In addition, he serves on numerous state and national professional associations serving multiple committees and boards. He is active with the Midwest City YMCA Advisory Council and is a member of the Midwest City Rotary.
Midwest City is where Metheny and his wife Angie, who teaches kindergarten in Mid-Del Schools, make their home with their three children: Hannah, Claire and Cole.
