A Midwest City High School teacher and football coach has been charged with sexual battery.
Dewayne Williams, 40, was charged Nov. 14 in Oklahoma County District Court. Bond has been set at $5,000 and Judge Donald L. Deason has been assigned to the case.
According to court records, Williams gave a female student, who stopped by the teacher’s classroom, a hug and then slapped her on the buttocks on Oct. 15.
When the student stopped by another day for a piece of gum, she reported that Williams grabbed her buttocks again, this time pulling her into a hug.
She added that Williams closed the door and the blinds of the classroom and proceeded to hold and grope her.
Williams reported the incident as simply talking to the student for a few minutes and giving her a piece of gum before she left, court records state.
He then ate lunch and took a nap, Williams reported.
The teacher went on to defend that it was normal for him to hug the female student, as they had known each other for a couple of years.
"Mr. Williams resigned effective Dec. 20, 2013," Mid-Del spokeswoman Stacey Boyer said. "He has informed us he resigned for personal reasons. We can also tell you that Mr. Williams has been on administrative leave since Oct. 18, 2013, and will be on leave until his resignation is effective."
Williams had been with Mid-Del schools since the 2007-08 school year, Boyer said.
