A national online real estate company has listed two Oklahoma cities as the top 10 most affordable places to live in the nation.
Midwest City took the No. 1 spot on the list and Moore came in second.
The Movoto Real Estate Blog, which is a major online real estate company, surveyed 139 unique suburban cities, looking at how affordable a city is to live in.
Factors like the cost of food, sales taxes, income taxes, homes and utilities were looked at by Movoto.
Midwest City came in approximately 18 points below the national average for overall cost of living, Movoto reported. Then the cost of food and utilities scored 8 and 15 points below, respectively.
Home affordability was another factor that led to Midwest City’s top rating with the median home price at $76,000 and the median household income at $44,396.
As for property taxes, Movoto reported that the city’s taxes are 24 percent below the national average, while sales and state income tax are 56 (sales) and 17 (tax) percent below average.
In the No. 2 spot, Moore is 14 percent below the national average in overall cost and the median home price is $106,100 with a median household income of $53,976.
The remaining cities in the top 10 list are: Cimarron Hills, Colo.; Pearland, Texas; Greenwood, Ind.; Clarksville, Ind.; Universal City, Texas; Schertz, Texas; Fishers, Ind.; and Cibolo, Texas.
Other Oklahoma cities surveyed and listed in the top 50 included Owasso (39) and Bixby (46).
