Jurors were selected Monday in the manslaughter trial of a Del City police captain.
Randy Trent Harrison, 48, is facing a first-degree manslaughter charge in the March 14, 2012 shooting death of Dane Scott, Jr. He has pleaded not guilty.
Scott, 18, died after a high-speed pursuit that ended in southeast Oklahoma City. Harrison shot the unarmed Scott in the back as the suspect attempted to scale a fence, according to court records.
The March 14 event was not the first time Harrison was involved in an incident with Scott. According to court records, Harrison arrested Scott four months earlier when Scott was reportedly caught selling drugs near Del City High School.
Other instances include Harrison, working undercover, spotting Scott selling what appeared to be marijuana from his residence and from a vehicle he was a passenger in.
On the day of his death, Scott was driving without a license with a loaded handgun, reportedly selling drugs to one or more passengers in his car just before the pursuit, court records show.
Harrison has been on administrative leave since the shooting, Del City police Major Jody Suit said. He has been with the department for more than 23 years, Suit added.
District Judge Donald Deason has issued a gag order in the case. If convicted, Harrison faces four years to life in imprisonment.
