These are all signs of construction, and currently in the Mid-Del school district, they are showing up everywhere as work progresses on numerous bond projects approved by voters in September.
The biggest projects included in the $90 million bond are two new elementary schools - one at Soldier Creek on SE 15th Street and Douglas, and another on Key Boulevard at East Side Elementary - both in Midwest City.
The two new schools took up almost half of the bond budget at $20 million each. They are not slated to be completed for the 2012-2013 school year, said school board president Jimmie Nolan.
Del City also is seeing its fair share of construction at Del City Elementary and Epperly Heights Elementary with major classroom remodeling and/or expansions, Nolan said. Information was not unavailable as of press time as to when the remodeling work would be completed.
The board president stays abreast of bond progress at each month's board meeting when school staff present updates at each month's board meeting. Nolan invited anyone wanting to know more information to attend the meetings, which are held at 7 p.m. the second Monday in the administration building.
Even though the four large bond projects are months out from completion, there are numerous others scheduled for Aug. 10 completion at every school site in the district.
The smaller projects being completed over the summer include new carpet and tile, restrooms and classroom remodeling, canopies and new roofs to a student pickup parking lot at Carl Albert Middle School.
"Projects are progressing very nicely as we expected them to," Nolan said. "A lot of work is being done this summer, which is a good time to make some major headway."
Nolan is confident that projects slated for Aug. 10 completion will be finished so students and teachers can hit the ground running when school starts Aug. 17.
Some projects will continue past the first day of classes, Nolan said, but those involving classrooms should be done on time.
Nolan has served on the Mid-Del School Board since 2000 and was appointed as president this year.
