If you’re like most people, you probably want to know what return you might expect before you invest.
But to translate a given rate of return into actual income or growth potential, you’ll need to understand the difference between nominal return and real return, and how that difference can affect your ability to achieve financial goals.
Let’s say you have a certificate of deposit (CD) that’s about to expire.
The yield on the new five-year CD you’re considering is 1.5%. It’s not great, you think, but it’s better than the 0.85% offered by a five-year Treasury note.*
But that 1.5% is the CD’s nominal rate of return; it doesn’t account for inflation or taxes.

Phase 1 involves 43 acres of land located along the NE 23rd Street frontage road. The Midwest City Council previously awarded a bid to Downey Construction in the amount of $200,000 for engineering improvements for water and sewer extensions to the property.

Good credit is an important part of your overall financial well-being. It can impact everything from the interest rates you’ll pay to being a prerequisite for employment. As a result, you’ll want to try to fix any errors on your credit report and have them removed as soon as possible.
Your first step should be to contact the credit reporting agency in writing to indicate that you are disputing the information contained on your credit report. The credit reporting agency usually has 30 days to complete an investigation of the disputed information. Once the credit reporting agency investigation is complete, they must provide you with written results of their investigation.
