Jeff Johnson has developed a number of properties the past few years but he knew there was something lacking in the Midwest City community.
And that was the presence of a professional business park he is getting ready to start developing at SE 15th and Douglas Blvd.
Johnson is one of two developers that will be building on the land. His part starts behind the Pablano Grill restaurant and goes north toward SE 15th Street.
"I was born and raised here so I have a lot of real estate interest in Midwest City," Johnson said.
"I have put together about 14 acres and developing a professional business park. You go to all the other metro area towns like Edmond or Norman and there are these types of parks and facilities available but Midwest City has nothing like that.
"It is going to consist of doctors, attorneys, insurance agents, accountants and all professional type of services. The need was there and this fills it."
Johnson said he expects to receive final approval from city officials in a few weeks and then start turning dirt 90 days after that.
"We are getting ready to start construction on the first phase of streets and utilities," he said.
The property will be divided into approximately 28 business development lots and Johnson’s construction company, Real Property Construction, will do most of the construction.
"We will be doing the construction on most of the units but somebody can own the unit themselves or they can lease it," he said.
"Most of the lots will range from $160,000 to $275,000 in price and they come with all the amenities that you need. We are going to have lots of options for them."
Johnson said the business park, which hasn’t been officially named yet, is designed to have walkability.
"It is designed so that you can come to work and walk to the coffee shop or the (nearby) restaurants for lunch."
Already, Johnson has several parcels of the property under contract, including an Urgent Care Center and other medical-related businesses.
There are lots of other entities looking to locate in the business park too.
"We have had a lot of interest," he said. "We hope to add a restaurant that is between Pablano Grill and Henry Hudson’s. We would like to add some more services that will be beneficial to the business park."
Johnson said when the project is completed it will help bring more jobs to town.
"These professional people create jobs, taxes and revenue for our city," Johnson said.
