Shirley A. Davidson, 84, formerly of Midwest City, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 in Columbus, Ohio.

Shirley was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Lawrence, Kan. to Louis and Gladys Johnson. The family later moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she attended school and married Robert B. Davidson on Aug. 15, 1952.

Shirley and Bob and their children traveled the world from then until his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1971 when they settled in Midwest City. She was always very proud of his military service. After being a homemaker for her children’s childhood, she went to work for the Oklahoma State Insurance Fund after they were grown, retiring in 1993 as a claims supervisor.  She loved to travel, read, garden, try new things and meet new people. She loved to keep active by volunteering her services whenever she could, including many years of service to the Oklahoma Blood Institute, along with service to the Mid-Del Food Pantry and RSVP. She was also an active member of Douglas Boulevard United Methodist Church. Most of all, though, Shirley loved her family and took great pride in always being there for her grandchildren’s birthdays no matter where they lived.

Because of failing health, she moved in with her daughter in Columbus, Ohio in 2012.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her three brothers, Edmond, Merlin, and Harlan Johnson.

Left to mourn her passing are her children Robert William Davidson and his wife Tina of Oklahoma City and Jo Lynn Dias and her husband Selwyn of Columbus, Ohio; her grandchildren Kacie Hames and her husband Dustin and Kody Davidson all of Oklahoma City and Brennan Dias and Evan Dias of Columbus, Ohio; great granddaughter Kaystin Hames of Oklahoma City.  She also leaves several nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.

Viewing will be 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City. Funeral service will be held at Douglas Blvd. United Methodist Church in Midwest City at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 with interment immediately following at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Douglas Blvd. United Methodist Church in Shirley’s name.
