Oklahoma’s Own Comic Con returns to the Reed Convention Center

Anyone who’s watched The Big Bang Theory has heard of the nerd crew’s love for San Diego Comic Con.

Oklahoma’s own version is upcoming this weekend, June 26-28 at the Reed Convention Center in Midwest City. The pop culture expo will host comic creators, cosplayers, gamers, writers, artists, and upward of 3000 fans in a full three days of fun, friendship, and information, too.

This year’s convention theme, The Future Is Under Construction, has been embraced by the organizers, so look for workshops on all kinds of creative arts; painting, sculpture, pencil work, fabric arts, comic creation, acting, 3D printing. These are on top of games, anime, a major Art Show with live auction, a Friday night Wrecking Ball dance, and a Saturday night Costume Contest.

For the hard core Star Trek and Stargate fans, the convention presents Mr. Robert Picardo, known for his roles on ST: Voyager and Stargate: Atlantis, plus the new Morganville Vampires webseries. Anime fans will enjoy meeting and talking with Space Dandy’s Ian Sinclair, native Oklahoman Jamie Marchi, and DragonBall Z’s Chuck Huber. Space Opera fans are excited to welcome Nebula Award winner Elizabeth Moon.

Advance memberships at are $20 per day, or $40 for the weekend. At the door memberships are $25/$50. Kids 12 and under get in free, with a paid adult.

Friday is Military Appreciation Day; active duty military get in free, or can buy a weekend pass for the daily ($25) rate.
