Lady Bombers thump Moore Lions, 71-16

By Hugh Scott

The Midwest City Lady Bombers burst out of the gate against the Moore Lady Lions with a 15-0 run on Feb. 10 and never let up en route to a 71-16 thumping.

The Lady Bombers, ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, used their superior speed and quickness to create a stifling team defense that resulted in multiple turnovers that were converted into fast-break layups.

“I thought we came out pretty good and showed some intensity.” Midwest City head coach Art Bode said. “We got an early run on them. We did a better job tonight than we have done recently in getting our lead passes out and getting up and down the floor so we got some easy transition baskets that way.”

Midwest City took their initial 15-0 run and turned it into a 26-3 first quarter lead. Ashley Clark led the Lady Bombers in the period with seven points and Jasauen Beard scored six.

In the second quarter, the two teams started off trading baskets until the Lady Bombers went on another run, scoring 10 unanswered points to build their lead to 42-7. The Lady Lions made a basket at the end of the quarter bringing the halftime score to 42-9.

The third quarter was no better for the Lady Lions as Midwest City added 10 more points to their lead, outscoring Moore 15-5 to take a 43-point advantage at 57-14 going into the final period.

It seemed that the Lady Lions had had enough as the fourth quarter rolled around, scoring only two points in the last eight minutes.

Jasmine Gaddis and Clark were the only two Midwest City players to score in double figures with Gaddis leading the way with 16 points and Clark contributing 15. Other scorers for the Lady Bombers included Carolee Dillard with nine, Quemari Boyd and Reagan Widener with eight each, Beard with seven, Adrianna White with four and Raven Gaddis and Markita Zeigler with two each.

For the Lady Lions, Amanda Patterson led the team scoring all of her seven points in the first half. Bryenne Jones added four, Stephanie Couser scored three and Lindsey Johnson added two.

Last Friday was the last regular season home game for the Lady Bombers.

Widener, Jasmine Gaddis, Clark, White, Dillard and Zeigler are the team’s seniors and were honored between varsity games.

Talking about his seniors, Bode said, “They are an outstanding group of young ladies, they have a bright future ahead of them. Some of them have already decided where they are going to go to college, some of them still have to make their decision but the sky’s the limit for them.”
