Blackaby, a former Choctaw resident, was referring to Walmart’s pending arrival, and the recent announcement that Murphy’s Fuel Station also will come to town. Walmart and Murphy’s will locate on 30 acres located along NE 23rd between Mazzio’s and Braum’s.
Blackaby is one of the owners of Choctaw Town Square, LLC, the development company for the new Town Square Center.
As previously reported, Blackaby said Walmart is conducting its due diligence on the property. The supercenter has an announced opening date of spring 2012.
Blackaby and Choctaw Mayor Randy Ross told the audience about a secret trip to Arkansas that surprised everyone.
The mayor said Blackaby asked the Choctaw City Council for permission to take the mayor to a secret location. Only after they boarded an aircraft at the Shawnee airport did Ross learn he was going to meet with Walmart officials.
Ross and Blackaby praised the city council for their work and for keeping secret about Walmart’s connection to the city.
“It has been an interesting experience,” Ross said. Blackaby said a second phase of the Town Square project is being planned, but would not disclose details about potential retailers or other businesses that might locate there.
City officials would like for Town Square to become a destination for family outings, shopping, activities and daily business.
