Longtime MWC fire department spokesman Jerry Lojka retires

Lojka spent 29 years at the Midwest City Fire Department and served in several roles, including firefighter, inspector, investigator, public education officer, public information officer and fire marshal.

His favorite job was that of department spokesman as he answered questions from the press, and conveyed important fire prevention tips to the public.

Federal retirees to meet Feb. 24

The Midwest City-Del City Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will hold its February luncheon 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 24, at Twin Hills Country Club, 3401 NE 36th St.

The meeting will feature former Lt. Governor Jari Askins. She is now the director of Outreach and Marketing at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. Del City WILD 5K slated Feb. 25

The Del City Runs WILD 5K will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 at Del City High School, 1900 S. Sunnylane Road.

The one-mile fun run will start at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Oklahoma Children’s Cancer Association.

Participants can register for the race at www.signmeup.com/80826. The races will be timed by DG Productions.

Marriage conference set Feb. 24-25

Choctaw Road Baptist Church, 14971 E. Reno, will host a “Love and Laughter Marriage” conference Feb. 24-25 with Ted Cunningham serving as the key speaker.

Cunningham is the founding pastor of Woodland Hills Family Church in Branson, Mo. He is the author of “Young and In Love: Challenging the Unnecessary Delay of Marriage” and co-author of four books with Gary Smalley.

Cost of the conference is $30 per couple.

Registration deadline is Feb. 19, and child care is available on both nights.

Titanic’s 100 th anniversary dinner scheduled

The Rose State College Foundation will host “The Last Dinner on the Titantic April 14, which is the 100th anniversary of the ship’s demise.

The RSC Foundation will provide a dinner recreating the final meal prepared for first-class passengers aboard the Titanic.

MWC chamber Golf Tourney May 4

The Midwest City Chamber of Commerce will host its annual golf tournament Friday, May 4 at John Conrad Golf Course. The shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m.

The title sponsor for the tournament is Midwest Regional Medical Center.

Entry fees are $600 for a corporate team of five players, while individual player fees are $90. Call 733-3801 for more information or to register a team.

Geneology workshop set March 10 in Del City

The Oklahoma Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will sponsor its annual geneology workshop 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 10 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 3901 S. Sunnylane Road in Del City.

Volunteer genealogists will assistwith research, answer questions and assist with DAR membership.

Breakfast and lunch will be served at no cost. A nursery will be staffed by a certified worker.

The Del City event will be sponsored by the Ebenezer Fletcher chapter of DAR.
