The Choctaw boys’ basketball team defeated the Mustang Broncos 53-52 in overtime Tuesday night. Tyler Gossett tied the game with 13 seconds left in regulation, and Reggie Wright sank the front end of a 1-and-1 with 2.8 seconds to go in the overtime period to seal the victory.
Wright pumped in 14 points and Mike Tourtillott finished with 11 points to lead the Yellowjackets in the come-from-behind victory on Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The team wore pink shoe laces and members of the student body wore pink t-shirts.
The team also wore the t-shirts during warm-up.
Choctaw led 25-23 at halftime and still was ahead, 40-35, after three quarters. However, Mustang outscored the Yellowjakcets 12-7 in the final quarter to tie the game.
However, the Jackets were able to win the overtime period, 6-5, and claim their fourth win of the season.
Del City 53, Southmoore 31
Class 5A’s Del City had little trouble handling Southmoore Tuesday night as the Eagles cruised to a 53-31 win.
The Eagles exploded to a 21-2 lead after the first quarter, and then held a 34-9 lead at halftime. Steffon Herd was Del City’s leading scorer with 21 points.
T.J. Noel led Midwest City scoring with 14 points followed by Daryck Jones with nine and Cornell Neal with eight points.
The Bombers led 29-22 at halftime and increased the lead to 40-31 entering the final quarter. Norman rallied with a 13-point fourth quarter, but fell short of the victory.
Norman is ranked No. 14 in Class 6A, according to okrankings.com.
Carl Albert 61, Ardmore 58
Three Titans scored in doublel figures Tuesday night as Carl Albert posted a slim 61-58 win over the Ardmore Tigers.
Dondre Brookins tallied 11 points followed by Javejon Gray and Carlbe Ervin with 10 each.
The Titans trailed 31-27 at halftime, but battled back with a strong third quarter by outscoring the Tigers, 16-6.
