Armed intruder shot, killed by Midwest City resident

By Tim Farley

An armed intruder who broke into a Midwest City duplex was shot and killed by the resident around 7:45 a.m. on Jan. 26.

The suspect, Reginald Keith Joseph, Jr., 27, of Oklahoma City was shot one time in the chest, and taken to Midwest Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“All the facts we know at this time support a justifiable homicide. However, that determination will have to be made by Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater once the investigation is completed and forwarded to his office for review,” Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.

Midwest City dispatchers received a call from a man who said he was in his bedroom at 301 Kendra Drive when his dog started to growl. At about the same time, the victim said he heard two kicks to his front door and he armed himself with a handgun.

While investigating the strange noise, the victim found his front door kicked in and confronted Joseph inside the house. Joseph also was armed with a handgun. The resident fired one shot, which fatally wounded Joseph.

Joseph has a previous criminal record ranging from possession of a controlled substance to carrying a firearm after a felony conviction and while on probation.
