Edmond Memorial squeezed out a 48-46 win over Midwest City in a battle of top-five teams Tuesday night at Sutton Fieldhouse.
Midwest City, ranked No. 5, led 33-29 at halftime after two quarters of explosive offense. Both teams lit up the scoreboard with three-point baskets, but in the end, it was defense that won the game for the Bulldogs, ranked No. 2 in Class 6A with a 16-1 record. Edmond Memorial has won 10 games in a row.
Memorial rallied from a seven-point deficit in the third quarter to pick up the win.
The Bulldogs outscored Midwest City 10-9 in the third, and then held the Bombers to four points in the final stanza.
The Bombers were led in scoring by Daryck Jones and Torey Noel with 11 points each. As a team, Midwest City hit seven three-point shots, including three by Jones. The Bombers, 13-5, will play Friday at Southmoore before returning home Tuesday to play Norman.
Del City 54, Norman 49
Del City used an explosive quarter to post come-from-behind 54-49 win over the Class 6A Norman Tigers Tuesday night.
Trailing by six points, 40-34, heading into the fourth quarter, the Eagles outscored Norman 20-9 to earn the win. The Eagles were led in scoring by Brett Cannon with 18 points.
The win improved Del City’s season record to 14-4. The Eagles travel to Edmond Memorial Friday to take on the No. 2-ranked team in Class 6A, and then play at Southmoore on Tuesday.
Carl Albert 71, Guthrie 57
Carlbe Ervin and Darrain Winston combined for 40 points Tuesday night as the Carl Albert Titans defeated Guthrie, 71-57, in Class 5A action.
Ervin tallied 21 while Winston added 19 for the Titans. Carl Albert, ranked No. 1 in Class 5A with a 14-3 record, were never in jeopardy of losing. The Titans led 19-12 after the first quarter, and still held a 29-23 advantage at halftime.
Guthrie, ranked No. 12 in 5A, kept the game close in the third period, but the Titans outscored the Bluejays 25-15 in the final stanza to seal the win.
Carl Albert travels to Noble Friday for its next game followed by a Saturday game at Lawton MacArthur and a Feb. 7 matchup at Ardmore.
Putnam West 79, Choctaw 43
Three Patriot players tallied double figures Tuesday night as Putnam West rolled to a 79-43 win over the Choctaw Yellowjackets.
Putnam West, ranked No. 13 in Class 6A, dominated the Yellowjackets from the opening tipoff. The Patriots outscored Choctaw 25-5 in the first quarter and never looked back. Putnam West took a 42-15 halftime lead, and then began playing reserves in the second half.
The two teams tallied 18 points each in the third quarter, and the Jackets outscored Putnam West 19-10 in the final stanza.
Choctaw, 3-14, was led in scoring by Reggie Wright with 16 points. Choctaw is 0-10 against teams ranked in the top 20. The Jackets play at No. 4 Edmond Santa Fe Friday, and then return home Tuesday against unranked Mustang.
